Financial Economist to join our team and take part in our
As Financial Economist in our Institutional division, you ll play a
key role in Pacific Life s growth and long-term success by
developing a range of economic and financial models that provide a
thoughtful, data driven, and comprehensive view on creating a
secure retirement plan using guaranteed lifetime income solutions.
This role will lead unique research opportunities by partnering
with market facing teams, product teams and financial planners to
augment data and research with market testing and consumer

HOW YOU LL CONTRIBUTE
* Develop holistic financial models incorporating all available
investments or income sources (stocks, bonds, annuities, social
security etc.) and optimize asset allocation to produce best
financial outcomes for individuals close to retirement or
* Develop a range of quantitative models that inform the
development of Pacific Life s Guaranteed Income solutions and
Pacific Life s communications with retirement plan sponsors,
investment advisors, and asset management firms.
* Collaborate with fellow economists and researchers to analyze key
investment issues facing retirement plan participants.
* Apply current multi-asset portfolio construction theories or
research to publish whitepapers, articles, podcasts etc. to promote
retirement readiness, retirement income certainty and overall
TECH & TOOLS YOU LL USE
MS Office Suite, Python or R or Matlab, Stata or Scala, R,
FACTORS FOR SUCCESS
NOTE: FINAL POSITION LEVEL MAY VARY BASED ON SKILLS AND
* PhD in Economics or Finance (Candidates close to completing PhD
in Economics/Finance will also be considered; Flex work schedule
can be accommodated).
* Added plus if research is related to Pensions, Retirement
planning, or Portfolio construction.
* Background in program evaluation methods, portfolio construction
problems, applications to business problems, and/or big data.
* Prior experience in Investments, Finance, or Insurance.
Experience in Python, Stata, R and/or Scala.
* Experience applying economics combined with machine learning or
data science techniques.
* Passion to work for a purpose-driven organization.
* Effective verbal and written communications skills.
