California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) is pleased to invite
applications for tenure-track faculty positions at the level of
Assistant Professor in Computer Science (up to two hires) .
California State University San Marcos offers a competitive salary

year t o support the beginning teacher-scholar in this position.
Computer Science is among the fastest growing programs at CSUSM,
with close relations with local industry. Candidates must be
committed to contributing to an undergraduate-centered,
pedagogically innovative Computer Science degree program. Priority
will be given to applicants who specialize in machine learning,
data mining, natural language processing (NLP), computer vision,
robotics, cloud computing, or human-computer interaction (HCI).
However, outstanding candidates from other areas within the field
of computer science may also be considered. Candidates with
industry experience are encouraged to apply. CSUSM values teaching
undergraduates and involving them in research. The campus is
located on a scenic hillside 15 miles east of the Pacific Ocean and
in the San Diego North County region, an area known for its
temperate climate and growing technology industries. We recently
broke ground on a state-of-the art 75,000sf building to house our
Computer Science and Engineering programs, projected to be
completed in late 2027. Our campus embraces twenty-first-century
learning and the teacher-scholar model. Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must possess B.S. in Computer Science and a doctorate in
Computer Science or related fields. (ABD status considered,
however, terminal degree is required at the time of hire) Evidence
of successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
Strong commitment to and demonstrated potential for teaching and
scholarship excellence. Ability to develop and sustain an
independent research program, with evidence of publications in
scholarly journals and/or conferences. Demonstrated ability to
communicate effectively and work collaboratively with colleagues
and with a student body representing a wide range of backgrounds,
life experiences, and educational pathways, including individuals
who are the first in their families to pursue STEM education.
Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated effectiveness in active
learning practices such as project-based or group learning, with an
ability to engage and support students from a variety of
educational and personal backgrounds. Preference will be given to
applicants who can show success in working with a broad spectrum of
learners through teaching, research, and/or service Priority will
be given to applicants who specialize in machine learning, data
mining, NLP, computer vision, robotics, cloud computing, or HCI.
Preference will be given to applicants whose expertise will expand
the education and research opportunities the department currently
offers for students and be complementary to areas of specialization
of existing faculty in the department and college. Interest in
and/or experience with curriculum development, program assessment,
and ABET accreditation. Responsibilities: Teach, supervise, and
advise students effectively, using strategies that have been shown
to support success across a broad range of learners in STEM. Design
and establish instructional labs that expand the existing
curriculum, working with industry and community partners to prepare
students for the workforce. Develop an active research program that
involves undergraduate and graduate students. Participate in
activities serving the department, college, university, and

Salary Range: $8,712 - $9,605 per month CSU Classification Salary
Range: $6,221- $13,224 per month Review of applications will begin
