Position Summary:
The Department of Surgery is currently recruiting for the position of Sr Physician Assistant, which requires a highly competent, independent, yet team-oriented individual. This role entails immersing oneself in the management and coordination of all inpatient care specifically for the Burn Surgery Service. This role may also assist in the operating room and see patients in clinic. In our pursuit of excellence, we are seeking an experienced and skilled Sr Physician Assistant who specializes in Burn Surgery to join our dedicated team at the academic medical center. The primary focus of this position is to deliver exceptional patient care through rounding and consults, ensuring that each patient receives comprehensive and high-quality treatment. The successful candidate will actively participate in the academic and educational activities of the department, staying abreast of the latest advancements and contributing to the growth of medical knowledge. Working closely with the surgical team, you will play a vital role in providing specialized care to patients with burn surgical conditions. It is important to note that this position includes operating room responsibilities. Responsibilities: Patient Care: Conduct daily rounds on inpatient burn surgery patients both in the Medical/Surgical Area and Burn Intensive Care Unit, performing history and physical examinations, performing comprehensive assessments, monitoring progress, and implementing appropriate care plans. Performs routine preoperative and postoperative procedures, e.g.: biopsies, negative pressure wound therapy, insertion/removal of tubes, lines, sutures; performs postoperative wound care. Assist the attending surgeon and resident staff in the operating room. Evaluate patients pre- and post-operatively, ensuring accurate documentation of findings and interventions. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, including attending physicians, residents, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, to optimize patient outcomes. Perform consults for burn conditions as requested by other healthcare providers within the medical center. Provide patient education, counseling, and support to enhance understanding and compliance with treatment plans. Documentation and Communication: Maintain accurate and detailed electronic medical records, including patient history, physical examination findings, diagnostic results, treatment plans, and progress notes. Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, families, and healthcare team members to provide timely updates on patient status, treatment plans, and any changes in the care plan. Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure seamless continuity of care during transitions, such as transfers to the intensive care unit or other specialty services. Education and Research: Participate in the academic and educational activities of the department, including teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. Stay up to date with the latest advancements and evidence-based practices in burn surgery through continuous learning and professional development. Engage in research initiatives and quality improvement projects to contribute to the advancement of patient care and surgical outcomes. Compliance and Quality Assurance: Adhere to all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and professional standards. Required:

  • Must be a current, active, and unrestricted licensed Physician Assistant in the State of California.
  • Practice agreements completed and on file in Department.
  • The PA must have a current DEA number from the US Drug Enforcement Administration Current BLS, ACLS, ABLS, PALS certification. Within six months of hire, ATLS certification.
  • Ability to obtain UCIMC Allied Health Professional Privileges prior to hire.
  • HIPPA and other training completion as required by Medical Center Annual TB screening and any applicable test to meet JCAHO requirements.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and adheres to privacy, confidentiality, and security policies and procedures related to Protected Health Information (PHI) or other sensitive and personal information.
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge, and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties.

    • Surgical services include scrubbing, draping, retracting, exposing, clamping, ligating and suturing. Knowledge of ePIC, Windows and MS Office software applications (Excel, Word, Quest, Access, Power point and Outlook). Bilingual in Spanish and/or Vietnamese Familiarity with UC policies and procedures.
