Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, skill level, and education.The Genetic Counselor I (GC I), collects and analyzes medical and family histories, evaluates scientific literature, provides education, explains hereditary and cancer risks and options for genetic testing (GT) for basic cancer referral indications. The GCI coordinates appropriate GT, analyzes results, and provides written consultation summary reports (requiring minimal correction) to patients, physicians, and electronic medical record. The Genetics Counselor I performs psychosocial assessment and provides support as needed.The GCI reviews GC reports for team members for basic cancer referral indications, participates in case conferences as assigned, attends Molecular Tumor Board and program meetings. -The GCI may attend Precision Medicine team meetings, and may participate in identification of process improvements, research topics and creation of department goals. Under supervision, the GCI may provide community education and internal marketing. The GC I refers all programmatic questions and issues to the GC supervisor. -Performs other duties as assigned.Education and ExperienceMaster's Degree in Genetic Counseling from an American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) accredited programMust have solid psychosocial assessment skillsKnowledge of cancer and how it impacts patient and family functioningAbility to interface with all customer levels (physicians, organizational staff, insurance companies, patients, and family members)Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, plus healthcare database systemsLicense RequiredState of California Genetic Counselor LicenseCertifications RequiredBoard certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC)
